Fridge Words FAQ

How do I start a new game?

To start a new game of Fridge Words click the ‘Play’ button on the Main Menu.

What is the aim of the game?

The aim of the game is to score as many points as possible by forming words on the top half of the fridge within the two minute time limit.

The ‘Letter Jumble’ that appears at the start of the game is a randomly selected set of forty letters so no two games are ever the same and you will always be able to make a different selection of words.

How do I make words?

To make a word drag the Letters one at a time into place anywhere in the top half of the fridge known as the ‘Scoring Zone’, placing two or more letters next to each other will cause them to ‘stick’ to each other, keep adding letters in this way until a word is created.

If you miss out a letter in the middle of the word you can drag and drop that letter into the position in the word you want it to be placed and the other letters will move apart to accommodate it.

How do I know if the word is valid?

As you start to form a word you will see that the letters you place are surrounded by a glow, if the glow is Red it means the word is not valid, when the glow turns green it means the word is valid and you will score some points.

Can I make words anywhere on the fridge?

No, you will only be scored for words made in the scoring zone (top half of the fridge).

Once I have made a word, can I use those letters again?

You can move those letters and use them again, but it will ‘break’ that word and you will lose any score you were awarded for it. So before you break a word make sure you can reuse the letters to form a higher scoring word!

How is a word scored?

The score for a word depends on the value of each letter that it is made up of.

Are all letters worth the same amount of points?

No, the value of a letter is based on how rarely it is used in the English language.

The vowels A, E, I , O and U are worth 2 points, the letters B, D, G, L, N, R, S and T are worth 3 points, the letters C, F, H, M, P, V, W and Y are worth 5 points and the letters J, K, Q, X and Z are worth 10 points.

What do the gold and silver letters do?

The Gold and Silver letters that sometimes appear on the Fridge are ‘Score Multipliers’. A Silver multiplier doubles the overall score for that word; a gold multiplier triples the overall score for that word. Only the letters J, K, Q, X and Z can become Gold Letters making them really high scorers!

What determines how many gold and silver letters are on the fridge?

There is a maximum of 5 Gold or Silver multipliers in any game. A letter is turned into a Gold or Silver multiplier if it is the only one of its type in the letter jumble.

Are there any other special tactics I should know about?

Yes, certain letters can be rotated to become different letters; this is really useful if you have lots of one letter left and none of another. To do this simply double tap the letter you want to rotate.

The Letters which can be rotated are B, D, M, N, P, Q, U and W

Rotating a B gives you a Q and vice versa, rotating a d gives you a p and vice versa, rotating an n gives you a u and vice versa and rotating an m gives you a w and vice versa.
